So in addition to the olives that Great-Grandpa, and Grandpa spent their lives growing, processing, and selling, our family company grows specialty citrus. The trees smell so sweet this time of year, as I mentioned in a former post. Right now we are at the beginning of the season's bloom.
In previous visits, until Daddy died in 2015, I would come to town, and we would tour the ranches. We would drive from ranch to ranch. Ranch eleven, ranch ten, etc.., they all have numbered names.
So this year, I am working on a little experiment. I am growing, Hardy orange, or Trifolate Orange seedlings. I am hopeful of growing out some seedlings from California citrus, and grafting them onto my Hardy Orange seedlings.
It maybe a "fruitless" exercise, but even so, I still think it is worthy for discovery's sake. I met a man in my area in zone 7, who had a sweet Hardy Orange. He moved, but I want to do some experimenting myself, if for no other reason than the excitement!
