Our trip in Peru just started! After visited the capital our journey continues to other city too far away from Lima. So far that we had to go back to the airport and catch an intern flight (operated by Latam Airlines) to CUSCO.
Did you know that Cusco were the capital of the Inca Empire? That’s a city located 3500meters high from the ocean level which helps in defensive ways. Visiting this city today you still feels the Inca presence in the air… really magnificent!
But let’s start from the beginning:
We’re at Lima’s airport ready to boarding a plane that… just see the picture 👇🏻
Yes, it was a really small airplane and I was fricking out !!! But everything went well, it was a smooth trip and an even better land. Recommended 😂
As soon as we land at Cusco we started to fell the differences between altitude. Some persons starts to fell very dizzies and starts the headaches. For that reason they suggests us to chew coke leaf all the time. Yes… coke leaf ahah and it works !
At the airport there was a lady welcoming us with a basket full of leafs and everywhere we went there was always leafs or teas in order to assist people that wasn’t fell well.
We stayed at hotel Jose Antonio Cusco (the same hotel company) and enjoyed the morning to visit the streets nearby. The architecture is really specific, colourful with Peruvian drawings invoking colonial times.
By the afternoon we were with a local guide visit Sacsayhuaman archeological park that is an Inca fortress, now in ruins. The rocks used to build this fortress are huge, some of them weighing tons and measuring more than 4 metres high!!!
It’s amazing how the Inca spirit remains in this city, every building, square or church send us to the past when this civilisation lived.
They were very meticulous with everything. Every small detail had a goal and this is why I loved so much this trip.
We ended the day visiting Korikancha, the Temple of Sun an Inca architecture structure and one of the most important sacred archeological complexes of that people. They say that when the spanish conquerors discovered Cusco city, this temple was covered of Gold as a gift to the God of the Sun. The truth is nowadays there is not a small little piece of gold in that walls. Everything was stollen by the Spanish people that used their strength and weapons to dominate a seemingly weaker people…
Memories that stay from a colonial time…
