The Wonderful West Coast
I decided to get out of Minnesota and spend a little time with my dear friends David and Lily of at their home near Seattle. We took some time to explore nature and sip tea while enjoying each other's company and some delightful conversations over the course of a few days. Once she escaped the frozen tundra, I was joined by my illustrious companion
!
In the wake of all the generous hospitality and oceans of sublime tea that was lavished upon us by our friends, and I set out for some further adventures in the San Juan Islands.
We took the ferry from Anacortes to Orcas Island, and camped out there for the night at Moran State Park. On our return, we hopped from Orcas, to Shaw, and finally to Lopez, where the “Friendly Isle” began to work its magic on us. I wasn't so sure we would ever leave.
The Lopez Island tale will have to unfold little by little. For today let's focus on a few beautiful images from Lopez Island's Shark Reef Sanctuary.
This is the sort of beauty you will have to endure if you venture to make the journey. The Olympic mountains shimmering on the horizon.
You can't really see them here, but seals are perched upon the rocks, blissfully unconcerned by the setting sun, flopped all over the rough sea rocks like it's just the cosiest place ever.
Here's a couple of nonchalant seals, peering back at me poking my cellphone camera into a pair of binoculars.
The sunset nearing completion...
Another sneaky image I grabbed through the binoculars... the iconic lighthouse poised at water's edge.
I'm in Portland now, just settling in for some much-needed rest. It's been too long since I shared some of my journeys here so I thought some sort of offering was in order. I'll be mining the treasure trove of photos from our visit to the San Juan Islands in the days ahead, so check back for more.
