Below are 16 photographs I took during the 4 years I spent in India. All these photographs were taken with a basic look-and-click Fuji camera. For me, composition is one of the most important aspects of photography, so my focus (pun unintended) is on a proper framing of the shots. I might do a bit of touch-up with i-Photo, but that usually amounts to only a bit of cropping.
These shots were taken throughout India. I lived near New Delhi, but travelled throughout the country. I found the whole central swath of the country (from Mumbai, up through New Delhi, and across to Calcutta) rather busy, a bit noisy and chaotic. Probably because most of the major cities are located there and because it’s so densely populated.
On the other hand, the far north (The Himalayas) and the south (Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu) were much more peaceful, pleasant and interesting.
Overall, my time there was very interesting and rewarding. As I indicated above, it’s a very diverse country.
I did not always appreciate the weather, since the temperature hovered around 45 degree Celsius for about 9 months of the year. But I always loved the drenching monsoon downpours. Well, at least I loved them when I didn’t get stranded or soaked or flooded.
Often, my friends and I would find ourselves repeating the country’s PR slogan – “Incredible India.” Maybe it was the many different cultures and people. Maybe it was because I love the spicy food, the delicious chai, the great port wine made in the former Portuguese colony of Goa, and the tasty Old Monk rum (neat, with a wedge of lime).
