I drove to Tampere today. I visited the go club in the evening. The annual Tampere go championship tournament is a double elimination cup that I innovated and started while I was still living there. Two guys played their weekly game at the go club today. I took some pictures at Pub Konttori where the club meets and around Ratina stream pool. The technical quality of the pictures is nothing to write home about but it is much better than of those I took about six months ago with the phone camera. There was little light and I don't have a camera stand of any kind so the choice is between long exposure+motion blur and shorter exposure+high ISO value (= a lot of sensor noise). To my surprise, the pictures turned out not completely horrible but only semi-horrible.
Pub Konttori
Their motto. It is really difficult to translate into good English. Perhaps it could be translated as "strict but proper service". Konttori means "office". There was a factory where fabrics were manufactured on the street and the office of the factory was in the space where the pub is now.
A set complete with an electronic clock has been laid out.
The tournament game (on the right hand side) is on.
The spectators seem to be enjoying themselves, too.
Laukonsilta bridge over Tammerkoski rapid. It's for pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge was built only in 2010.
Laukontori market place from the bridge. Tori = market place. It is named after Laukko manor in the municipality of Vesilahti about 30 to the south of Tampere. Produce from the manor used to be transported over Lake Pyhäjärvi to this market place.
