Today's adventure will take place in the Ruahine Forest Park
I bring you to the snowy hiking Sunrise Track
The Ruahine Range is the largest of several mountain ranges in the North Island of New Zealand
The highest point in the Ruahines is Mangaweka, situated along the Hikurangi Range, which at 1733 metres (5686 feet)
Curiosity of the nature, the New Zealand longfin eel is the largest freshwater eel in the world. It can reach nearly 2 meters in length, weigh 20 kg and live more than 100 years.
A dream for fisherman, become a good commercial bargain and an ecological nightmare. Fished intensively since the 1960s to be sold in sushi or dog food on markets in Europe, United States or Japan. The giant eel, in the old days, thrived in the lakes and rivers of New Zealand, is on the brink of extinction. Less popular than the kiwi, the icon of the endemic animals of these islands, the eel is not without protection.
