When the sun sets and the light must pass through more atmosphere, more blue light is scattered and the sun becomes yellow and red. When this picture was taken, the air was clean and this beautiful mountain visible kilometers ahead, but air pollution does help this effect and therefore makes sunsets a little bit more beautiful. So next time you see a gorgeous sunset, think about what a big air pollutant we are.
