For the steemians who love photography, it's time to take a look at this!
How did I achieve this picture?
Firstly, what does photography mean?
The layman's definition of photography is the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a sensitive surface.
For the beginners it is apposite to talk about the three major things you should be introduce to because shooting without a better understanding of these three things would be difficult to make an exceptional shoot. These are;
- Aperture
- ISO
- Shutter speed
If you can make good use of this aforementioned elements, you're good to go!
There are two ways you can have your target snapped is either you set your camera to Automatic or Maunal. I personally don't like shooting with automatic. Most times I shoot with manual because shooting in auto put a limit to what one can achieve with his/her camera.In many cases, the camera has to guess what the right exposure should be by evaluating the amount of light that passes through the lens. Better knowledge on how ISO, aperture and shutter speed operate together makes a photographer to take absolute control of the event by manually controlling the camera. To enhance a good skill in photography you must shoot almost everyday.
(1) The Aperture : camera's aperture setting controls the area over which light can pass through your camera lens . It is specified in terms of an f-stop value, which can at times be counterintuitive, because the area of the opening increases as the f-stop decreases . In photographer slang, when someone says they are "stopping down" or "opening up" their lens, they are referring to increasing and decreasing the f-stop value, respectively.
By the Numbers . Every time the f-stop value halves, the light-collecting area quadruples. There's a formula for this, but most photographers just memorize the f-stop numbers that correspond to each doubling/halving of light
(2) Shutter speed: A camera's shutter determines when the camera sensor will be open or closed to incoming light from the camera lens. The shutter speed specifically refers to how long this light is permitted to enter the camera. "Shutter speed" and "exposure time" refer to the same concept, where a faster shutter speed means a shorter exposure time.
By the Numbers . Shutter speed's influence on exposure is perhaps the simplest of the three camera settings: it correlates exactly 1:1 with the amount of light entering the camera.
(3) ISO:a way to brighten your photos if you can’t use a longer shutter speed or a wider aperture. It is typically measured in numbers, a lower number representing a darker image, while higher numbers mean a brighter image. However, raising your ISO comes at a cost. As the ISO rises, so does the visibility of graininess/noise in your images. Examples of ISO: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600.
The picture above was achieved through the use of gel
Finally, the camera also have several pre-set modes; the most common include landscape, portrait, sports and night mode. The symbols used for each mode....
Will talk more about this in my next post...
