More from Antelope Canyon X, near Page, Arizona. Canyon X is part of the same drainage system, but is a bit more remote than Upper and Lower Antelope spots that are more famous and see more visitors.
All tours to Canyon X are through Taadidiin Tours, which take a maximum of 6 people at a time. You basically have the whole magical place to yourself!
Formed by erosion of Navajo Sandstone due to flash flooding, the canyon system is still prone to these floods, which is part of the reason why access is so tightly controlled.
The floods come up very fast, and could be from rainfall 10 or more miles away, so there is good deal of monitoring and safety considerations in effect. This is to prevent another tragedy like the incident in 1997 when 11 tourists were killed after being swept away with no warning.
