This weekend we went on an epic journey from North Florida to South Florida to see if the rumors were true...
My daughter Kiko loves reptiles. She researched online and found that wild Iguanas can be found in South Florida. My reaction? Let's confirm it first hand - road trip!
We identified Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale as a nice place to start. Within a few minutes of arriving we spotted large green creatures running through the grass!
The first two scampered off into the bushes, but the third was brave and courageous.
After a brief standoff with Kiko at the Kayaks, the Iguana retreated (in hilarious fashion) to the Paddle Boat! The chase was on!
Sorry Iguana, you'll need to find a better hiding spot than that!
They circled the Paddle Boat a few times! I was laughing so hard it was difficult to hold the camera steady - sorry for the blurry pics!
Kiko in action
Ah-ha!
After a fun chase Kiko let me take some pictures of him.
I slowly crept closer and immediately after this shot...
SPLASH! I learned Iguanas are amazing swimmers! It swam like a slithering green torpedo into the horizon!
