This is Castle peak in the eye of a storm on Donner Summit.
I saw a post earlier from of the Castle Peaks in the New York mountains of Nevada so I figured I'd share some photos I took winter 2015 when I hiked just about halfway up the California Castle Peak. Unfortunately during the hike it began to snow heavily so I had to turn back.
Castle Peak is the throat of an ancient volcano and its three turrets are easily visible form nearby Interstate 80. Castle Peak feels like a much higher mountain. Its towering rocky summits are not unlike the rock towers found further south in the Sierra Nevada Range.
This one is a panoramic of the view at about 3/4 of the way to the summit. I was quite bummed out I didn't get a photo from the top of the peaks but I didn't want to be stuck up there in the middle of a snow storm.
Have any of you guys had the chance to complete the hike and make it all the way to the top?
