A hidden universe of amazing light where there is none visible. Beauty hidden from our eyes but captured trough photography.
My topic today is going to be photography. And more precisely long exposures. This is something that captured my imagination at first glance.
For those who don't know, long exposures are photos that are taken for more than a second each. For example a normal shot on a sunny day may be around fife hundreds of a second and faster. This is the time your film or sensor captures light trough the lens. The longer that time the more light you get basically in your shot. During the day a long exposure without the proper filter on your lens would result in a blank white image. BUT do a long one during the night and you instantly feel the magic.
You see light where your eyes didn't. You see motion in the still. You find a whole world that is there visually but in another aspect of time. Like a parallel universe of colour and light.
I remember long ago when I was still really young (like 13 or something) I got a surprise present from my uncle. It was a small Canon ixus camera. I was already really interested in photography and drawing back then and where I'm from it was still not common to have a digital camera.
I was playing a lot with it and I remember it could do exposures of 4 second. This was the longest it could go but this was enough for me to get literally hooked on the effects.
Now almost 10 years later I have taken thousands of exposures and I am constantly improving on skills and combinations of techniques in order to discover more of this parallel universe that is night photography.
As the amazing journey I see this to be I would love to share it with more people and even help others get in on that magical game.
I'm starting this series from today called Beauty of the dark. In it I'm going to be sharing parts of my photographic journey with you on Steemit. I'm also going to be absolutely hyped and really happy to see some of your work as well. To make this happen you can tag your long exposures with #beautyofthedark and tell a little about how you shot your pic or where and with who. I think this is going to be really fun so lets give it a try!
1 minutes and 18 seconds of exposure time at iso 800 here with my trusty canon eos-m and a Rokinon fisheye lens.
This is one of my most recent works. The field that you see is really close to where I live. It was taken at arround1 am. Few hours before the pic we were playing music with a friend in a rehearsal room that we have and I was already quite tired. However I wanted to shoot that field since I saw it a few days earlier and couldn't wait more. I was ad with the result after having taken around 10 different shots.
I hope I see some of your shots soon and I hope this gets you out to a cool place to do some photography as well. Let's inspire each other trough sharing and I'm sure we can all learn from each others experience as well. Happy shooting and the best of shots to all :)
