I like to live places where there are snakes. I have a huge respect for them and find their presence rather humbling somehow.
I know there are a few deadly snakes but there are lots of ways to die in this world and I trust my destiny is not to die by a snakes bite so I see no reason to fear them particularly.
My experience has been that they only bite as a real last resort when they feel particularly threatened.
My daughter actually tripped over a big rattlesnake while playing by a creek in Arizona USA but was not bitten by it. Three adults walking close by saw her trip and saw the big snake getting squashed beneath her but they said that it just looked shocked and scooted off fast under a bush to hide! haha She was since dubbed with the title "Rattlesnake Kid" and funnily she tripped over not even realising there was a snake under her. Only the adults saw it and stood open-mouthed not believing their eyes!
All in all I still think a walk through some cities is probably more precarious than a walk through the real jungle =)
