Raghu Rai, born in 1942, is an Indian photographer and photojournalist.
Raghu Rai became a photographer in 1965. The following year, he joined the team of The Statesman, a newspaper in New Delhi. In 1971, Henri Cartier-Bresson noticed his work during an exhibition in Paris. He left The Statesman in 1976 and became an independent photographer and photographer at Sunday, a weekly in Calcutta.
He entered Magnum Photos in 1977, at the request of Henri Cartier-Bresson. He left the Sunday of Calcutta in 1980. From 1982 to 1992, he was the director of photography of India Today magazine. He became known internationally by photographing the consequences of the Bhopal disaster.
Raghu Rai lives in Delhi.
