Aynaligöl Cave, also known as Gilindire Cave, is located in Aydıncık, Mersin (southern Turkey). This well preserved cave was discovered by a shepherd in 1999. There is also a small lake at the end of this beautiful cave. I visited this cave on a hot summer day and fell in love with it. The lake is 47 meters below see lever and it is a fabulous reflector because no currents exist at the end of the cave. That's why the locals calls it Aynaligöl, which simply means Mirror Lake. While I was in the lake, I was thinking constantly about this famous book from Jules Verne, Journey to the Center of the Earth, which I read many times as a kid. If you ever visit Turkey, this cave and the mysterious lake in it are definitely a must-see for you.
