That's right Steemians. I said it. Pinterest works! But why would I be telling you that? We are on Steemit and we don't care about other social networks.
Technically that's true and you are right, we only care about Steemit. So let's leverage Pinterest as a tool to help grow the Steemit Community.
Why Pinterest Matters
At last check, Pinterest has 175 million users and growing and I like finding ways to leverage them. I don't believe that Pinterest drives a lot of sales but it is a great idea engine. People browse around the site and bookmark images onto their pin boards. At a high level it doesn't mean all that much but we can use it to get more exposure to our Steemit profiles.
First of all, have you noticed all the great visual posts here on Steemit? They are pretty incredible. Over the last few months I've noticed Steemians putting a lot of effort into their posts and it makes for really great consumable content. It really helps the community when we have high quality posts and I really encourage everyone to vote up the posts you like.
But don't stop there!
Did you know that you can share the link to any blog post on Steemit to pinterest? Well you can it that should be a pretty big deal to you.
If you don't have a Pinterest account stop reading and go sign up. https://www.pinterest.com/
1. Sign up and verify your email address.
2. Then pop your Steemit profile url into your Pinterest Profile.
3. Create a few Pinterest Boards on subjects you like. *Travel, Life and Photography are popular on Steemit so perhaps use those.*
4. Pin your Steemit Blog Posts to your Pinterest Boards
So why is this such a big deal?
Well it's because of a company called Google. Every time someone posts on Steemit , google will come along and add it to its search index. This means your post will be available on Google if you search for for it.
The same thing happens with pinterest. Your Pinterest Boards and Pins are available to google and if they are high quality curations, they will rank on the Google Search results.
That doesn't sound like a big deal but what it happening is that Google is giving a little juice to your Steemit profile and the Steemit domain as well. So is pinterest. It's called back-linking and it's powerful. It will help create exposure for Steemit to Google users and drive them to the community.
Second, those 175 Million users are actively seeking out great photos and this creates a lot of traffic. People will see your photos and click the link to the site where they were originally posted. This will bring more traffic and new users to Steemit. It doesn't even matter if the posts are over 7 days old and have already paid out. Building links to old Steemit posts is still very valuable.
