Dear Steemers :)
Have you ever been to Zakynthos/ Zante? No... well pack right now and just book that flight :) You will certainly not regret it!
What? You cannot afford it yet? Well.. keep on steeming then.. or at least just travel there through my lens :)))
You get the idea of the island life as soon as you take the boat in Kylini Por, near Patra.
And then.. you just chill for 1 hour and 20 minutes until you get up to start your adventure!
Zakynthos is part of the seven islands (Eptanission) of the Ionian Sea, in the Greek territory! It is also the third largest of the seven islands.
Greek Mythology: As all similar names that end in -nthos, the islands name has Pelasgian origin. In addition, in Greek mythology is named after Zakynthos, son of the chief Dardanus.
Another name for the island is "To fioro tou Levante". The meaning in Italian wuld be : "Il fiore di Levante" and in English: "The flower of the East". The nickname was given to it by the Venetians, who posessed Zakynthos island from 1484–1797.
We stayed in the south part of the island, the zone called Vasiliko. It is just beautiful and green.
Fact: The main well- known figure of the island is the famous poet Dionysios Solomos. He wrote the Hymn to Liberty ( Ὕμνος εις την Ἐλευθερίαν, Ýmnos eis tīn Eleutherían). Two stanzas of the poem were set to music by Nikolaos Mantzaros, to become the Greek national anthem (1865). His statues is found at the main square of the island, which is also named after him.
I must say, as Greece has around 3000 islands, the natives of the island are very proud for this figure!
The island has many sightseeing spots. But, I do not really like to show such things in my posts, as you might have noticed from the previous ones :) If you are the type of person that loves to travel as a tourist, I respect that. That means you enjoy beauty even when it is crowded. Meanwhile, I have always enjoyed solitude and places that are left alone :) Just like the below lonely places in the north of the island!
But, here is a crowded place, full of Greeks! This is Agios Nikolaos beach in the south of the island. If you are the watersport person, this is the place to visit!
When you go all the way to the northern point of the island, except this hippie juice- maker van, you will also find some great landscapes and amazingly crystal water beaches :)
Hope everyone has enjoyed the pictures! As I have traveled too many times in this island, stayed tuned for part two where I will be talking about Navagio. The most famous beach of the area :)
Here is a preview of the landscape before you reach Navagio/ Shipwreck :)
Until next time, keep on Steeming and exploring :)
Love,
xxx
