The old medieval village of Castell'Umberto Vecchio (called also Castanìa), is located in the province of Messina.
Surely this place is not on many people's list when visiting Sicily but well worth the trip and even more so now.
As I said is located in the northeastern part of Sicily and still holds a very genuine medieval fashion.
It's really small but very well preserved and it's great to walk on those little streets, the atmosphere is magic.
Fabulous unspoiled villages and drives nearby and only 15 minutes drive to Montalbano elected best medieval village in Italy.
Well worth thinking about if you still want to discover some of the less known and less touristy places in Sicily.
