yesterday I went to the "Ijsseljazz festival" in Gorssel, a city near the place I live. We were triggered by the headliner "Vandenberg's Moonkings", the latest rockband of former Whitesnake guitarist Adrian "Adje" vandenberg.

We went to a gig of Moonkings before and they are just awesome. We were a bit surprised when we heard they played at a Jazz Festival, but the festival turned out to be a mix of musicstyles and also a mix of audience :)
When they started they were on fire in a blink. You can see in everything that this band and it's members really do have fun playing.
Adje played in the band "Vandenberg" at first. This band had a number one hit with their song "Burning heart" (which they played too yesterday). Adje got in a nasty fight with former bassplayer and the singer of Vandenberg. They tried to force Adje to give up his name "vandenberg" and they wanted him to pay loads of money from royalties. Adje never was forced to pay them, no judge got along with their story. But it did costed him loads of energy while all he wanted was make music.

After Vandenberg Adje was asked by David Coverdale (singer of Whitesnake) to come and play with Whitesnake. Adje wrote "Slip of the tongue" together with David. Unfortunate Adje got injured with his hand and eventually had to quit Whitesnake.
Since some years now Adje is performing with Moonkings. A band with two young guys (Bass and Drums) which he asked to play together with him when he saw them playing in a gig for the local soccer club (FC Twente).
To see how big Adrian was and still is, see this little trailer of his own documentary.
The singer of Vandenberg's Moonkings is a farmer. When Adrian asked him to come and sing in the band he agreed but did told Adrian that whenever he had to harvest , his farm was his forst priority. It still is.. He travels with his own car so in case of a emergency he can drive to the farm himself... Isn't that awesome :)
The gig yesterday was awesome. We enjoyed every single minute of it... If it was up to me they played some longer :)
Some more photo's I made yesterday.
Have a great evening,
Peter
