On the Western edge of Cañon City, CO there is a rocky ridge whose peak sports a view for miles in every direction. Along that ridge runs a road called Skyline Drive which gives those unwilling to leave their cars a beautiful view and close proximity to nature.
One evening during our stay in Cañon City we hiked up to the top of the ridge and walked along the top, including along Skyline Drive. We got to the top just in time for a pretty sunset and enjoyed a cool fall breeze as we sat along the edge and surveyed the countryside.
One of the great things about Colorado (besides the obviously incredible mountains and scenery) is all of the wildlife that can be seen. During our hike we saw a herd of deer walking scenically along a nearby ridge and several Bighorn Sheep scampering around through the rocks.
