Rohu (scientific name - Labeo rohita) is a vertebrate bone fish that is found in fresh sweet water. Its body is shaped like a boat, which makes it easier to swim in the water. There are two types of finial (Finn) found in its body, in which some are in pairs and some are alone. The names of these meanings are pectoral fin, pelvic fin, (in pairs), page fin, aliphal and tail fin (singles). Their body is covered with cycloid scars, but there are no scales on the head. The glands on both sides of the back of the head are covered by the lid or irritulum. Gills are located in the gills, which are its respiratory organs. There is a clear lateral line from the back of the lid to the tail. The back side is black or green and white on the side of the stomach. Its head is triangular and there is a mouth under the head. Its end is made of skeletal bones. The air is at the top of the diet. It helps in swimming and breathing.
It has special significance in the form of food. Apart from Orissa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Assam in India, it is considered one of the most delicious dishes in Thailand, Pakistan and Bangladesh residents. In the Lahauri dishes of Punjab, it is specially prepared by frying it like pakodas. Similarly, Rohru fish in Orissa's dish Machha-Bhaji has special significance. In Iraq too, this fish is very liked in the form of food.
