May your heart be light and your smile be wide. Wishing everyone a relaxing, safe and blessed Sunday. Enjoy the rest to the fullest🤗.
Now for our daily shots, it was late afternoon with the golden hour sun shadows over the busy streets of Quiapo. Our group consisting of my wife, my son Joaquin and several of my wife’s relatives who had come over for a vacation. We were here to explore the famous Quiapo Church and the area surrounding it. Though we had been walking for hours, having walked all the way from Binondo Chinatown with our tired legs.
We made our way toward the church through the crowd to get inside. The interior of the church was grand. Even though there was no mass at this specific time, the place was like full of people offering short prayers. It was busy and filled with people from all walks of life.
Devotees were lighting candles in different colors. We stayed for a bit. My wife’s relatives were fascinated by the sight of the Black Nazarene. It was a brief moment of peace with the noise of the city outside.
After stepping out of the church doors, there's this lively energy of the streets once again. The roads around Quiapo are densely populated and alive with the sound of jeepneys and vendors shouting. We just joined the flow of people, walking the narrow sidewalks.
We were on the lookout for fruits and souvenirs for the relatives to take home. The sidewalks were filled of stalls selling everything from religious icons to handicrafts. We stopped at a fruit stand with the fresh local produce of longan and browsed through keychains and shirts.
The walk was tiring since we had started our journey on foot all the way from Binondo. However, seeing the enjoyment on our relatives faces made it worth the effort. They were getting a true taste of our country's Manila’s urban culture. We eventually purchased a few souvenirs and some sweet treats to snack on.
