There's something so sacred about slowing down, spending time with family, taking a breath, and visiting a solemn place.
Last weekend, I had the chance to spend a day with my mom and two nephews, we went to two of the most serene and spiritual places near Metro Manila: Antipolo Cathedral and Regina RICA in Tanay.
Morning In Antipolo
Our day began at Antipolo Cathedral, also known as the National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. It's my mom and my nephew's first time attending a service in Antipolo Cathedral so I know it's going to be special. The place is packed as usual with people from different cities as it's one of the famous churches near Manila. We couldn't find any available seats so we found a little spot to stand near the door. When it was time for the offertory we were approached by one of the ladies who gave us an envelope and told me to join the line to give to the altar. So I went in line and waited for my turn. But to my surprise, I was chosen to carry the bread for the offering, feeling a little overwhelmed, and honored I happily accepted the task. The very kind lady even offered to take a photo for me as a souvenir making a real effort to include the altar in the background... When we were in front the priests gave us a blessing and when I walked back to where my mom was I said a soft thank you to her and she sweetly smiled at me. Now, that would seem like a normal interaction but for me, it's very special. A very kind gesture that I always smile whenever I remember. The past months have been challenging for us but we are strengthening our faith through prayer and that simple moment is like a God's way of saying that he hears us. Instantly my spirit was lifted and I was smiling throughout the remaining service.
When the service was over we went outside for some quick photos and lit some candles before heading for lunch and making our way to our next destination.
Peace on the Hill
Regina Rica is more than a pilgrimage site- it's a spiritual sanctuary located in the hills of Tanay, Rizal, with a giant statue of Our Lady, Queen of the Holy Rosary towering peacefully over the land.
It's my second time to visit the place but I'm always amazed by it. A huge statue of Our Lady, Queen of the Holy Rosary with a chapel inside. We reached the top, entered the chapel inside the statue, and sat quietly. It's a moment of presence, of prayer and of gratitude. You can feel the sacredness of the place while praying. Just a soft calming breeze that seems to take all of your worry away... Taking photos inside is forbidden and I can understand why.
When we were done appreciating Regina Rica's beauty we decided to take a walk to enjoy the fresh air and the view of the mountains.
Going Home
On our way home, my nephews fell asleep and I'm silently thinking of our small family adventure. I realized faith isn't just about praying, it's about moments shared.
Life Lately? It has been about slowing down, showing up, and staying present-especially with the people who matter most.
