Hi there! It has been some time since I have posted anything here. Infact it is my very first post on Hive. Thanks to for getting me to write again.
And I would start with something I like to talk and write about, my travels in the Himalayas. I have been venturing in the high Himalayas for quite some time and today I would like to tell you about some of the finest alpine lakes that I have witnessed during my journeys in the mountains.
Today I shall give you a brief overview of some lakes and gradually I would take you to these locations as I get a hang of this platform.
Chakund Lake
Nestled in the remote mountains of Chamba, a quaint little town in Himachal Pradesh, this lake is approachable only by foot. Surrounded by tiny hamlets along the way, this lake is a surprise package because while you have exhausted your energy on the sun exposed trail, the lake appears out of nowhere to soothe your tired body and mind. During rainy season, this lake is visited by nomadic shepherds along with their livestock making it appear even more lively with little lambs running hither-thither.
Kamrunag Lake
This is a jewel of my hometown, which is also a small town trying to be a city while the mountains surrounding it try to keep it lagging in the city race. When I visited this lake a few years back, the lake could be approached only on foot. However, times have changed now and there is a road leading right upto the shores of this lake. Thankfully the road is not 'an all weather road' so one can expect to find a lot of now and not much motorcades visiting this lake during winters.
Pangong Lake
This one needs no introduction. It is the famous Pangong Lake in Ladakh region where birds, tourists and army personnel visit the lake all year long.
Mahakali Lake, Chamba
This lake is known by many names and while I was trying to reach some other lake, I accidentally reached here and then I got to know that this is the same lake that I was wanting to visit :)
It took us three days, truckloads of snow and bone freezing rain to reach here. But in hindsight, it was worth every drop of sweat. The lake is located at an altitude of around 13000 feet and there is nothing but silence up there. So much so that even if you try to breath, your own breath would disturb the eternal silence.
Parashar Lake
Another jewel from my hometown. Approachable via road as well as on foot. During winters, pilgrims visit this high-altitude lake on foot, fighting their way through high snow walls. As they in the mountains, faith makes you do crazy things and for the faithful they do not even look or sound crazy.
And lastly, that's my hometown. Home sweet home :)
All the photographs have been clicked by me over the years and I have put them on my Facebook Profile
