⛵ ⛵ ⛵ ⛵...(Tour of "High Island")...Continued...
[Last time...]
The first of the fire arrows missed its target and sped across the main deck almost undetected, landing in a muffled splash on the far side of the river! Almost that is…
Catching a peripheral glimpse of the fiery assault, the Captain ran to the portside rail and his eyes burned red! There, in the dimming light of early evening, hundreds of burning projectiles shot upwards into the air like a flock of mythical Phoenixes! Turning quickly, he yelled out in a loud voice,
“Hit th’ deck! Aw’ doon, doon!”

[On the Silverton…main deck…]
The main body of the fiery barrage came in high and fast! Like the first shot, most streaked through the rigging of the ship and went on out across the river to the west! However, a few did find their mark, two in the foremast and one firmly embedded in the furling of fore topsail and the sail cloth quickly caught fire!
“Is something burning?!” Commander Kerrislravenhill said as she held he hands over her head, face down on the deck.
”Man the fire brigade!” The Captain yelled out as he lay on his side and watched the sail cloth quickly become engulfed in flames!
“All hands on deck for fire patrol!” Able Seaman Tamaralovelace relayed across the starboard side of the deck.
Like a well-oiled machine, Officers Bitcoinman, Trayan, Fat-Elvis and Kevmcc got up and ran low across the main deck and pulled the covers off the rain water barrels and began handing out pails! Then in reverse order, they ran in a crouch towards the forecastle deck where the fire was spreading along the fore topsail boom. Two brave sailors climbed the mast and made their way to the boom, dousing the furled sail cloth with water! For a moment it seemed that things were under control, but then the second large volley of fire arrows came soaring in and this time the Seneca’s aim was better, striking a dozen or so places on the forecastle and setting the jib furling ablaze!
“By Gawd ‘att’s enough!” The Captain’s deep voice boomed as he got up off the deck boards and ran to the capstan, “Have a care men! Help me raise anchor!”
In a moment there were six sailors on the capstan with the captain turning the crank and slowly pulling the big iron anchor out of the heavy river mud!
The free running current of the river then took a hold of the ship! The Silverton swayed to the portside as the powerful current began carrying her downstream in hurry!
”Standing Officer Trumpman! Git oan ‘att wheel and bring the bow about!”
”Aye Sairrr! !pimp” Trumpman yelled back as he gave the sip’s wheel two hard turns to bring the bow of the Silverton in line with the current.
“Galligan- git the water brigade oan the forecastle noo!”
”Aye Sairrr!”
As the men turned their fire fighting attention to the forecastle, it was clear that the bow of the ship was now seriously engulfed in flames!
