“The ship is turning Sir, maybe she’s holding off?!”
Berengar gazed out across the big lake and saw that the frigate had indeed tacked east. Never having actually seen battle himself before, his heart failed him and he relented…”Alright…call up the medics...” (See: @joshuaslane/silver-adventures-captain-joshua-slane-25jn24-call-up-the-medics )

[On the open waters of Great Lake Ontario…]
With the Silverton sailing full speed ahead to the north-east and the sloop sailing fast due south, it didn’t take long for the distance between them to disappear…
“She’s comin' straight oan!” Commander Galligan said as he watched the fast approaching hull of the big frigate cut water, “We’ve got tae be ready tae board! Keep th' sail lines taut an' yer wits aboot ye!”
“Ahh’mm...takin' oan water....an' sinkin'... giv me best... tae th’ rest…” Cockpit Mate Pocketechange said as he slumped down against the portside gunnel.
“You’re nae, Pocketechange! You’re jist exhausted! Come oan cheil, sit-up straight an' breath deep!” Commander Kerrislravenhill encouraged as she held the running line with one hand and grabbed his jacket with the other.
Galligan raised a concerned eyebrow as he evaluated the situation. Battle fatigue took hold of the best of Officers, and this was the first time Pocketechange had seen real action….
“He’s alright! Lit heem be…he’ll feel much better when we git heem back on-board th' Silverton!”
Kerrisravenhill took a deep breath and gazed at Galligan. He winked briefly back at her, then set all his attention to south…
[On the Silverton…main deck…]
“These shroods oan th' foremest ur gettin' way tay slack! Brings me a marlinspike!” Standing Officer-Carpenter Jaraumoses ordered as he ran his hands through the support lines of the foremast.
“The sails sure use up a lot of rigging to sail optimally!” Able Seaman Punkysdad said as he looked up at the tangle of lines.
“Aye, they dae! Git movin’ Lad!”
“Right away Sairrr!”
Able Seaman Punkysdad ran across the main deck in a sprint and headed down the galley stairs, only to run head-on into Seaman Daveks! The rough collision set them both back a step…
“Hey mucker- watch what you’re doing! You nearly sent me a tumbling!” Punkysdad said as he regained his footing.
“Sorry mate, didn’t see you coming!”
“Alright then, be careful! I’ll see you back up-top!”
The two seamen parted ways just as the familiar voice of Junior Petty Officer Giotists rang-out from the crow’s nest above…
“We got th' sloop comin' in fest froms th' north! Less than a mile oot!”
On the bridge, the captain stretched out his longscope and brought the small vessel into focus…
“Fife degrees eest Trumpman...lit 'er come in stoaner oan uir starboard side. We don’t want th' fockin' Franks tae lob in onie lucky shots!”
“Ha! They stain nae chance!”
“Be it as it may Laddie, Ahh’m nae takin' onie risks!” The captain replied matter of factly as he called down to the main deck, “Giff me fower guid men oan th' starboard rail an' a lang line in a strang hain!”
“Aye Sairrr!” Standing Officer-Boatswain Tesaganewton called back as he gathered a group of young sailors at the starboard rail, “Silversaver888, Joshman, Belemo and Tbnfl4sun- starboard rail noo!”
The wind seemed to favor the Scots as the two vessels sped towards one another. A half mile, a quarter, two hundred yards! Everything seemed to be lining up perfectly for the rendezvous until…the blood curdling war whoop that rang out from the opposite shore caught all ears!
The captain quickly swung his scope around to the north. There, a half mile out from shore, at least a dozen Indian war canoes were in all-out pursuit, their paddles flashing in the late afternoon sun like dancing fire!
“Bloody Nora! Can thes git onie mair complicated!” The captain muttered under his breath as he slapped the scope shut and barked orders to the forecastle, ”Man-up th’ carronade! Oan th’ dooble!”
