- THE ROOT SYSTEM
roots are present underground and perform various functions:
they hold the soil in place and prevent soil erosion
they absorb water and minerals from the soil for the plant to sustain.
some roots also store food and are edible. ( potato,ginger etc.)
TYPES
- THE TAP ROOT
this root contains of a main root called as the primary root which has various branches or secondary roots. this type of root is found in dicotyledons.
- THE FIBROUS ROOT
this root contains a membranous network of roots. there is no main root. it is found in monocots.

THE LEAF
leaves are called the kitchen of the plant where food is synthesized. (only in green plants). this is made possible due to the presence of chlorophyll in plasmids of the plants. the process of photosynthesis takes place in the presence of sunlight and food is made in the form of glucose.
leaves are also edible. examples; lettuce.
leaves have a pattern of veins called venation.
