Carpobrotus is also known as sour fig, pig face, ice plant, highway / freeway ice plant, and hottentot fig.
The fruit makes a good preserve.
The plant prefers a sandy soil but does well in nearly any soil when properly maintained. We suggest at least a well draining soil. Very drought tolerant.
Add a touch of green and purple to your living space or outdoor area. Carpobrotus makes a great ground cover (be sure not to let in become invasive to native plants/natural environments).
Carpobrotus cuttings are easy to start rooting and once rooted can be very hardy.

The fruit is edible and sour. The leaf juice has been used as an astringent and is a mild antiseptic, as a treatment for jelly fish stings, sun burns and other skin conditions, mild bacteria infections of the mouth, as a laxative, sore throat gargle, and for stomach cramps.
