Playing With My Camera: Belgrade Half-Marathon
I was quite surprised when I went out from my home today. As you may read I am finally back from my business trip and pleasantly surprised by first snow. So I went to a little walk and find out that today was the day of First Belgrade Half Marathon!
Quite satisfied that by accident I choose zoom lens to mount on my camera I followed runners for last few miles to finish line.
Belgrade Half Marathon is not actually dated in December. It would be quite strange to schedule any open space activity in Belgrade in December. This year snow is a little bit late and it is surprisingly hot for this time of year and, again surprisingly, there is no that blistering cold wind which become trademark of Belgrade during Winter.
Half Marathon was actually delayed for two months because city officials requested. Reason unknown... as many other things here, but I must say that they miss perfect time for running for just one day. Previous day was 10 degrees, dry with almost no wind - perfect for long runners. However, it seams that snow did not bother them :)
Belgrade Marathon and Half Marathon are among most difficult marathons in world. Thank's to fact that Belgrade is actually built on few small hills, height difference is significant and to be even hardest - last few miles are constant uphill.
Even though it is very interesting to watch runners competing for first place or personal best, my hart is with those on the end of pack. Nor really in best shape, beginners, older, group of friends who just having a good time, couples, fathers supporting their kids... endless list of true heroes and real spirit of marathon!
Big congratulation to all who attended First Belgrade Half Marathon and wish them many many miles and good wind!
