Waking up early to a silent house,
Waking up slowly to the room’s half-dark
The world begins to form itself anew
Beneath dream-ashes lies the glowing spark
Of lives I’ve dreamt and dreams I knew -
A frugal life in warm memory doused.
by Jeffrey Johns (Edinburgh, UK)
Waking up alone, in achingly dead silence,
Gives light to overlooked perspectives.
Dreams coalesce without guidance,
Fears, making us restive.
Blending the ashes of yesterday’s memories
With the needful deeds of today,
One hopes to put words out cleverly.
Should in memories this verse might stay.
“A frugal life” is a thing to be had,
Be not vain nor boastful in your carriage.
Let Frugality be your anthem; with
Thrift may your progress be clad.
Living and working in efficiency and good cheer,
Can often remove barriers around which we must steer.
