The Light After the Storm
See me flourish and bloom
Not because of you,
Not in spite of you,
But because I grew.
I grew, budded,
And now I bloom.
See me stretch towards the sun
See me drink in the rain
See me sway with the wind.
I am strong enough for any coming storm.
You were a hurricane,
Pulled me into your chaos,
Pulled me to and fro.
You bent me so far
I thought for sure I’d break
I thought you’d give me more
Than I could ever possibly take.
But here I stand
And the light is new,
Brought after the storm blew through.
You pulled me in a way
That broke the soil around me
Giving my roots more room to grow.
And the rain your poured
Watered me,
But the light that helped me grow?
That came from me.
And it’s a light brighter than you’ve ever seen.
