This country is blessed is the hackneyed expression
We live in affluence but in abject poverty
Rich men taking an askance at us on the lower rung
The poverty line swelling in-considerably
The country is rich with natural resources
With the resources comes with our despondency
Rich men taking an askance at us on the lower rung
The poverty line swelling in-considerably
The street is littered with waifs and strays
Home a receptacle to bloated malnourished entities
Rich men taking an askance at us on the lower rung
The poverty line swelling in-considerably
It is disheartening that despite the huge human and mineral resources at our disposal, we still live in abject poverty; mendicants hither and thither, malnourished children, illiteracy swelling up, violence in crannies-all these are traceable to our profligacy. We are rich but live in penury; we are blessed but live accursed, resources abound but frittered or fleeced with inhumanity. Ours is a gory, ambivalent story.
