“How long, O Lord? Will You be angry forever?
Will Your jealousy burn like fire?
Pour out Your wrath upon the nations which do not know You,
And upon the kingdoms which do not call upon Your name.”
- Psalm 79:5-6
Ever tire of the battle?
I sure do.
But my refuge is scripture, and when I get discouraged, sometimes I write poetry.
This poem is filled with biblical allusions. You may find it interesting to see how many you can spot. At any turn, you can click the embedded link and see one of the scriptures that was on my mind as I penned each phrase or stanza of this poem.
May our LORD bless you
as my poetry prompts you to think about our present battle and the wonderful rest to come.
"Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near."
- Hebrews 10:24-25

How long until
Our faith is sight?
How long 'til you
Bring day from night?
How long before
We see the light
We've so long waited for?
How long until
We sin no more?
Until we reach
The blessed shore,
The other side
Of Jordan—cold—
To meet the saints
We've read of old?
How long until
You dry our tears?
'Til you restore
Losses of years?
How long?
HOW LONG?
Our pain's immense;
We struggle
Living in these tents...
A resurrection body's
What we need...
The battle's end
Is that for which we plead.
Please, bring the promised Kingdom in...
How much longer?
When's the win?
There's only so much more
That we can take!
Please, Jesus, come!
Before we fin’ly break!
But in the meanwhile,
Help us build
Your Kingdom here
In earthly world.
Aid us,
Your Glory to show forth
Your Name,
To demonstrate its worth.
To do your will
On Earth each day
In lives committed
To your Way.
Help us to pray
For laborers;
A massive harvest
To secure…
The final sheep
Who wanders far,
To bring into
Your loving fold.
Exceeding great,
Your promises!
Help us, never to forget
What you've foretold!
