I.
(Echoing from some far-off plateau)
An immaterial dune pulling the vessel
Downward into itself, a crazed anchor.
[Ivy chokes the mariner's insignia.]
A wrinkled face churns the axis,
Reverses its brain of leather gloves.
[Turning the clothing inside out]
Rippling, she: elsewise indescribable
Floating on the dead sea
(Sand bristles the macrocosm.)
II.
Black gulls:
A dent into a punchcard,
Pale crabs
Clubbed by needless cruelty.
The zone of bewilderment
Summoned by hooked symbols
Drawn in the damp ground.
Microcrystalline men
Deliberating under the
Feet of beach ghosts.
Trash, mirage smells,
The appearance of
A hypnotic young woman
Who, through the silent echoes
From some far-off plateau
Is saying, "Good aft'noon!"
