Where we find the summer flings
Laughter breaks in the wind
And we sing faster as the end emerges
On the horizon following quick
The red sun crosses the sky,
Don’t you know the setting comes?
As ripples in the sea reflect pink light
Lay by the church in the crevice of the rocks
Through the window look out
Hear the gentle waves over marble
And close your eyes tightly
You know you must go home one day.
Memories flow down rivers of childhood obscurity
Days spent on swings and hiding in trees
And legos snap together harmonies
Tears fall into smiles coming out to sea
Happiness is an explosion in your heart
And a glow under your skin
A warmth slowly seeping through your soul
Little drops of bliss
That spark with electricity,
And surge in your senses.
The Sun sets over Paros. 2017.
I wrote this at a time when I had just quit my job and didn't really know what I would do next. But the office 5-9 felt domineering to me and in the moment I knew a change was needed. A month later, I found myself in Greece, with little money in my pocket but a return of passion in my heart.
Hope you enjoyed!
