From the abyss rise the ashes
Dark and shiny like black girls lashes
Smooth tanned skin glittering, like a thousand matches
Defying reality, age and skin patches.
Conundrums and soliloquy masks the her
The voice in her head tries to change her
"They are right, cause they are white.....
Listen to them and quit being wise
Look like them....... beauty is them
Then just like that the mind is changed
And once again peer pressure wins the day
Topple and turns, the head is off
Then just like that, the skin is lost
But yet again it all seems cruel
To shed your skin and rub in a new fuel
I guess you really should know
You've open up and unleashed a duel
Between two colors, so...... let's watch,
Which is the dominant hue
It's been a long time since i wrote a poem, or better still posted anything on my blog. It has been a really hectic period for me, well not totally hectic but nice too, as i left lagos for Benin for something.... Yeah I'm not gonna say. But i thank God for everything.
Diving deep
It's time to really dive deep and understand the poem. Basically this piece is about the black woman changing her ways (skin) and going white or brown or... Whatever. Well it's about bleaching the skin.
The first stanza is the intro and is minimally praising the black skin and body. Which is awesome by the way..... I mean the black skin.
And the second " Conundrums and soliloquy masks the her " this mainly means her thoughts are getting the best of her. And this physically taunts her too as she's seen mostly thinking.
Now the third, well you know what happens the mind beats her will and sh>quotee listens to her friends and so on, and changes her skin.
I personally love this last part, well it's talking about both the colors on a war to take over, as this is sure to happen if she doesn't frequently apply the fuel (cream) to keep the skin the way she wants it.
So that's it, another easy to read and get poetry.
