but all too soon
the warm breeze
will brush its lips
across our foreheads
for the last time,
a sort of goodnight’s kiss
with a promise to return.
winter solitude and
I haven’t yet
come to terms,
still I shudder
at the thought.
beagle to the woods
and we savor
the last bits of you,
drink in the wine of
your mottled green and
relish the perfume
of the warm Earth.
will be all we have.
Delicious day dreams we harbor
will be rationed carefully and,
if we’re lucky,
they will again transport us
faithfully to another spring.
