With this poem, I try to paint a picture of the times before, during and after the earthquake that hit Nepal.
On 25th April, in a town near the city of Kathmandu on the map
"Sita, can you pass me some rice and curry?" asked her dad
Sita passed em to her dad and went to the kitchen after that
She was back with two bottles filled with water from the tap
and said "mom, I think dad should eat less, he's getting fat"
if he keeps eating this way, he's gonna blast pretty fast
They all had a good family laugh, worthy of a photograph
I wish I was there to capture that
But I cannot defy physics, I cannot time travel back.
It was this time, time when Sita had her last laugh
Because the next moment, she heavily gasped
when she heard the sound of a falling flask
and the very next moment, the whole roof tore into half
Screams and shouts all around, they were falling back
It was a terror. 7.8 Richter scale on the seismograph.
The whole house turned into a pile of rubble
Sita was screaming for help, she was in trouble
But the whole surrounding was facing the struggle
People showed up for help with tears and shovels
Witnessing bodies with exposed bones and muscles
Fighting for survival, caught up in the hustle.
Sita fought her way out, she managed to survive
In her family of 3, she was the only one still alive
She cried and screamed in pain and agony
for she was miserably robbed of her family
that once lived very peacefully and happily
But now, she was traumatized with tragedy
brought to her by natural calamity.
The tremorous terror didn't stop there, it continued for 60 odd days
It destroyed many families and lives like Sita's, in unimaginable ways
Homeless, no food to eat, no clothes to change, such was the case
but people stuck together in a commonplace, running from nature's chase
News showing impacts in different places for comparison with a measurement scale
Different organizations and countries donated; putting numbers in the database.
A lot of which
was not distributed properly, suddenly it was a part of government property
There was no strategy to utilize the funds to manage the increased poverty
Resulting a cavity in people's trust towards the government's capacity,
the anti-generous mentality, the anti-neutral morality in every locality,
the political instability and the undelivered promised facilities.
The people have lost faith in their government in reality.
The people helped each other in the community with whatever they could
People showed a true sign of brotherhood in every neighborhood
A sign of likelihood of the nation's resurrection, coming soon.
Meanwhile, Sita still misses her family and things are never going to be the same for her
But she is a brave girl, she survived the quakes; beating the death that came for her
She wants to be the Prime Minister and bring change to the nation, what bravery: shame on us
My best wishes are with Sita and I know she'll make it because now,
this isn't any game for her, it's an aim for her.
