Close Your Eyes - A POEM

Close your eyes and look inside
look deeply to the future of your past
are you standing now where you saw you then
did your dreams and hopes survive
or did life murder them with time
Memories are cluttered with broken betters
a sacrifice here, a put it off there
your future becomes your now
your dreams melt into the background
like knick knacks in a curio cabinet
small adornments of your here
to be viewed as treasures but never used
close your eyes and look inside
look deeply to the future of your past
can you still see the start of that path
or has it been obscured by life
has obligation replaced imagination
has your path become a lonely road
where dreams roll by like tumbleweeds
pushed away by the breezes of commitment
while you travel on a lost highway
close your eyes and look inside

can you make it back there ever
will you even try
