I’m independent—
I’m not
Watching the snow
In sunlight
Sparkle
Like diamond dust
Is only possible
Because I know
I can share it
With you
If you were gone
I wouldn’t see
The blue-lined yard
The flutter of snow
From a neighbor’s tree
Or the up-flight of mourning doves
Into the cumulus sky
Do you know why?
It’s because I have two lives—
One that began
When I was born
And the other
That commenced
The moment I met you
You are the reason
Why my life forked—
You are the author
Of this divigation.
I knew nothing
Of beauty before
You are my guide
Though this colored world—
Your dressing table
Strung with beads
Scattered brushes and combs
Is my altar,
And your perfume
My incense.
Why must I go
Everywhere with you?
It’s not that I mistrust you,
But merely want to linger
In your presence
Dwell in the precincts
Of your love,
Hear your voice
Speaking my name...
Making everything
Beautiful again.
