Heidegger says,
So
I fill the bath
With fresh water
Each day.
I’m not sure
If animals come
But it’s there.
It looks lovely
Nestled among hostas
Beneath the pine.
The trees behind
Are turning yellow
And shadows
Cross the garden.
My dog and cat
Are at the window screen
Watching .
I join them
And we peer out,
We three,
Joined in an ancient ritual.
What would we do
Without them?
Bless the beasts
For the world can be
A lonely place.
