This poem is about walking your own path no matter what others think you “should” be doing.
Sometimes the riskiest roads are the ones that lead us home...

Playing with Fire
I’m in over my head, playing with fire,
But I like it too much to stop.
Mama said, “Don’t go there, child.”
But this is my life, and I’ll run to the top
Of whatever mountain I want to climb.
I’ll sing my way up and talk to the pines,
I’ll dance my way down with blessings and bliss,
My path, my choice. I like feeling like this.
I’m so far in there’s no turning back,
And I’m not sorry, but in the black
Of the night my thoughts pull and fight,
Heart-train roaring down dark tracks.
Ain’t no stopping this thing—don’t know where it goes,
Holdin’ on, hopin’ hard, gotta navigate this road
Of impossibility, uncertainty,
I go from flying to afraid I might explode.
Keep walking, running, forging my path,
Gotta trust my soul to lead me true,
Forward, with courage now, no turning back,
I learn so much from each of you.
Love and joy are all I want to give,
Retreat the balance for the way I live.
Climb inside the creation of bliss,
My path, my choice. I like feeling like this.
