Jewish, Mediterranean, German, Austrian, Hungarian, Romani. European? White? Person of color?
Unknown heritage. Ambiguity.
Jesus was black. No he was Jewish. Semitic. Are Semites white?
Privileged? Suspicious? Visitor in his own country?
I don't know what I am. I don't know what to say. I am many things, many colors.
My race is fluid, and that's okay. I am me.
We are all human. We are all one people.
A variety of colors, shapes, and sizes.
More than a rainbow. More dimensions than we can count.
Each one of us unique. Infinite difference. Yet all one.
Jewish, Mediterranean, German, Austrian, Hungarian, Romani. European? White? Person of color? I am me.
I wrote this poem as part of a challenge on Vocal. It was rather appropriate considering I had just written an article about race and racial fluidity.
