I remember you from when I was a child,
I remember standing in your shade -
that stood within a larger shade,
I remember watching you grow, imperceptibly,
one frozen moment at a time, elastic.
Do you remember me
standing on your roots?
intricately twined beneath my feet
while, somehow, simultaneously,
Also floating above me,
Quietly, swaying in the hilly breeze.
Do you remember me asking you
How you come to be here?
Carrying me across gushing streams,
Who guided you here?
Who guided me?
Was it you?
You gave me no answers then,
You give me no answers now-
Only questions.
