Unexpected Alternative
The path was sure
Or so I thought,
A perfect match for me.
Clean and secure
And free from fault
As far as I could see
The journey set,
The plan laid out,
And all things thus prepared,
I’d made a start
When with a start,
Another path appeared.
Rocky and rough,
Brambled and thorned,
It seemed a choice absurd.
Yet it drew me
I felt an urge
And down this path I trod.
Could this be love?
Insanity?
Or are they both the same?
Is it a trick?
Naïveté?
Or lust’s coy cruel game?
I can’t turn back
I don’t want to!
The thought I just can’t bear;
To leave my love
Newfound, no doubt,
But now to me quite dear.
Why did I choose
To come this way?
I still have no idea.
I guess the heart
Wants what it wants
And knows its fated pair.
