This Haiku is a reaction to how the human species sees the seas as its personal dumping ground. Believe me, I've seen it first hand on numerous occasions. Every scuba dive I've been on in the last 10 years I have returned to the surface with a BCD pocket full of plastic picked from the ocean floor. New technologies of biodegradable plastic-style containers are now available, which begs the question, why are poisonous plastics still used at all? The answer, money!
This was not a typical Haiku as the first and second line ran on from each other, but hopefully the poem expressed some of what makes the form great:
Mono no aware (物の哀れ), empathy with nature and human life; the "feeling of things", nostalgia, regret for the passing of time, understanding of the changeability and of the transience without suffering.
Yūgen (幽玄), sense of wonder and mystery; it represents the state of mind produced by the inexplicable fascination of things, the feeling of an 'other' universe, full of mysterious unity.
Wabi (侘寂), the taste for frugal and natural things, rustic simplicity, freshness or silence; it can be applied to both natural and artificial objects, or even non-ostentatious elegance.

Although similar to haiku, senryu is more open in subject matter - including the human side of existence - and subjective viewpoint, often incorporating humor and political views.
