Lost to me
On the floor you laid but laying there it was not you
All was the same but what was known no longer held
Your body moved in ways unwitnessed and for me untrue
Preparation will never be enough in face of spirit felled
In lap you sat and into your depths I searched and failed
The face was unfamiliar and the eyes once bright were dull
Looking for a glimmer of the beauty, chosen love had sailed
High above the waves of life on currents unknown with gull
Minutes crossed time as heart beat and head ran through all
Moments lost past and future but now is what was to teach
Drops of sweetness upon your lips desperate effort to call
To one lost in forest, sea and the desert none can reach
Softly spoken I whispered and close to chest you pressed
Opening doors and closing windows the lights flashed below
A battery to find cause and treatment to release the stress
As soldiers in red looked on with concern upon their brow
She searched for you also, as we sat she looked upon us two
Pleading silently with life itself for good fortune to play a role
Hands interlocked and wrung tight with nothing left to do
Situation and circumstance of terror continued taking toll
The concerns of self fades as more important needs arise
To see suffering and hardship uncontrolled, unable to stay
Finally you focused and search end came with the prize
There you were, love returned, emerging from the grey.
