Sliding down
Heady the heights and dazzling the lights,
of the magic that was to arrive.
Knowing of none else and could not see fault,
in all that we would contrive.
Flawed the plan but perfect the trap was set,
forcing us to peddle and strive.
Tricked into belief of what was not there,
to make us feel more alive.
**
In the clouds we played with earth below,
careless and filled with dreams.
Far above beating wings of bird and plane,
dancing across muffled screams.
Listening to the tearing of fabric give way,
as they picked away the seams.
And using the twine to make looped rope,
and sling it over high beams.
**
The slide down the slippery slope of hope,
into the ditches along road sides.
To return to where the porch light burns,
the home that was despised.
Welcomed by the arms of those abandoned,
in which none would ever confide.
Ashamed by the way we bought into the lie,
and into the darkness we slide.
