RIVER DROWN
My River drown!
My River drown!!
All my plights I'm sure you know.
My beauty over the years had grown soar,
The fruits within are unripe.
My River drown!
My River drown!!
where hast thou gone now?
Look twice these weak- whimper waiting arms
to do unto thee no such harm.
__
My River drown!
My River drown!!
Come merry now on this great feast.
I sure now will not forsake thee,
forsake me now not.
Remember, that prior to this time, the young woman was dejected and snubbed by her parents, her boyfriend and the society, an act which led her into the act. Shes repentant and thus call on the child's spirit to come and feast with her. Note that this call although is an earnest one, it's also luring and tricky to get the child's attention. This the content of this stanza is similar to Wole Soyinka's Abiku where the poet personae calls on Abiku to come in and stay with the household or return to the boa-bar tree where thy kindred spirit please. _ She goes further to assure that she will definitely not forget it and also prays the child will not forsake her.
A promise made needs to be kept. Heres the concluding part of the poem entitled River Drown. Your comments would make me better.
