There's a distance between us
But it is nothing because
You beat and breathe
Between, within my ribs.
There's a silence between us,
At night while we sleep,
During the day while we work,
But I hear everything your heart says
And it speaks only truth.
There's a fear within us
That we will part and never meet
But I see you across the street,
Beside me in the bus,
Your scent on my pillows,
Your breath on my skin,
Your kiss on my lips,
Always with me; a memory, a fact.
There's a choice between us
To keep this flame burning,
To keep this sweet music playing,
To keep our hearts beating,
To keep this love breathing,
To keep everyone guessing
Until we grow old and weary.
I love you little one
In case you ever doubt it,
Touch my ribs
And feel your heart beat in sync
With mine and know it to be true.
